appolearning-square-iconApp discovery company Appolicious has created a new service to help parents find educational apps for the iPad, Appolearning.

The service is, according to Appolcious managing editor Brad Spirrison, based on the idea that most educational apps for the iPad “stink” and fail to deliver on their App Store product listing. Appolearning aims to address this, by offering reviews of apps from educational experts, with each review given as a “Report Card” based on six criteria: Educational Content; Kid Appeal; Assessment; Features & Design; Safety & Privacy; and Value.

The company has also come up with a system for organising apps that takes in 100 subjects (such as “reading” and “number sense”) and four distinct age groups: Early Childhood, Elementary School, Middle School and High School.

TechCrunch reports that the service will also feature clearly-marked sponsored listings, which cost $250 a week.
